Appuarmy was started purely to support the Sri Lankan cricket team and it's all about cricket, cricket, cricket, and nothing more or less than that. In other words, I love cricket and very passionate about the Sri Lankan cricket team and that is the reason for me to start this.

Before you go through the site I would like to state few things about appuarmy.com and how we came up with this brilliant Sri Lankan name. As a big fan of Sri Lankan cricket, for a very long time I have been giving thought that we too should have our own supporting group for the Sri Lankan cricket team whenever they play in Australia and was coming up with lots of different names in English which rhymes with Barmy Army for England. But unfortunately every attempt failed and finally we started thinking of Sri Lankan names. Immediately my wife suggested "appuarmy". Both of us were struggling whether to choose the name or not and whether it did have a true meaning which we want to tell the world but giving the credit to my wife the name was born. According to what I’ve heard Appuarmy is an ancient Sri Lankan name which was used in villages. The making of the name- AppuArmy = appu+ harmy and I did have to eliminate one letter (h) to give the name a stronger feeling. We decided on this very long ago but only before the 2008 CB series, I thought of creating the website as for a start and follow the team to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, since that was the maximum I could travel with the team from this part of the world at this stage.

Lots of Sri Lankan cricket lovers were asking for discussion forums and memberships and live scores when Sri Lanka plays and all sort of details. But unfortunately at this stage it is not possible but definitely all those requests are due for the future and when everything falls in to place we can have those facilities. For now there will be UI enhancements and will be updated with all the Sri Lankan cricket news, articles, thoughts and interviews on regular basis so that the Sri Lankan cricket lovers can get all the Sri Lankan cricket news from one hub which is www.appuarmy.com.

The site is purely for any person who loves Sri Lankan cricket and the Sri Lankan Cricket team and will be able to write articles or comments which can be an appreciation of the team or a constructive criticism which I will be happy to publish on appuarmy with your name on it.
