England
has
the
Barmy

India,
the

and
Australia
the
Boonie

to
cheer
their

Now,
Sri

too
has
got
its

The
Appu
Army,
the
latest
addition
to
the
existing
bunch
that
includes
the
Barmy
Army
(England),
Wave
the
Flag
(Australia)
and
Bharat
Army
(India),
were
here
to
follow
their
side
closely.
The
pouring
rain
didn't
matter
to
them.
They
had
come
down
from
Sydney
in
droves.
Rain
might
have
spoiled
many
a
plan,
but
the
6,207
people
at
the
Manuka
Oval
looked
a
pretty
full
house
nevertheless.
And
it
was
here
that
a
whole
new
army
made
its
presence
felt
at
the
international
cricket
arena.
The
Bharat
Army
beware:
the
Appu
Army
is
here!
For
long,
Percy
Abhishekera
was
the
lone
flag-bearer.
But
a
whole
bunch
of
supporters
now
accompany
him
to
the
venues
where
the
Sri
Lankan
team
plays
cricket.
It
was
nice
to
see
Lankan
supporters
in
Australia
coming
under
the
Appu
Army
brigade
to
match
England's
famous
Barmy
Army.
Appu
Army
reminds
one
of
the
famous
Sinhala
name
Appuhamy,
keeping
the
truly
Lankan
traditions
Down
Under.
